Q: How long have you been teaching in Sacramento?
Emelie, the instructor/choreographer/founder has been
teaching dance for most of her life (since the age of 11). She
has taught salsa in Sacramento since 2000. She has an extensive
dance background in ballet and jazz
from
the Ballet Theater of Dover (Delaware). She has been dancing
for many years since the age of five and has danced hula, Philippine
folk dancing, and other cultural dances throughout her youth.
The Yemaya Salsa Dance Company was formed in October of 2000
and incorporated in 2004.

Q: How much do classes
cost?
Classes are $10 for drop-ins for
a full one-hour of instruction. We also have 5-lesson,
10-lesson and 15-lesson dance
cards available for students who want to save. New beginner
students
can always take the Beginner I class for only $25/month
and repeat if necessary. To see our current list of fees, click
here. <top>
We also offer membership packages for our more dedicated students. Join our mailing list for up-to-date information and promotions. <top>
Q: Are private lessons available?
Yes,
private lessons are available depending on instructor availability.
It is recommended that you take private lessons occasionally
to
fine-tune
your
skills.
You will receive one-on-one personal attention. You
will learn tips on technique and styling that the instructor
may not
have
time
to
teach in
a group
class.
Contact
Emelie at Yemaya_Salsa@yahoo for more information. <top>
Q: Do I need to bring a partner?
No,
bringing a partner is not necessary. Students rotate periodically
throughout the class to ensure that everyone gets a chance
to practice their moves. If you have a partner, and prefer to
dance with your partner only, that is okay too. <top>
Q: I am interested in joining your dance team. How can I join?
We
are always looking for fresh salsa dancers who are enthusiastic
and excited about learning and can commit to rehearsals
at least once a week. If you have experience performing
or if you have been dancing salsa or another dance for at least
one year, come join us. Auditions
are held once a year. Feel free to contact us or approach the
staff about your interest. <top>
Q:
Where can I watch Yemaya perform?
The
Yemaya Salsa
Dance Troupe performs all throughout the year. For
information on upcoming performances and events, please
visit the upcoming events section
on our website or get on our e-mail list.<top>
Q: Where can I go dancing?
There are salsa clubs in Sacramento throughout the week. If you
want to significantly improve, it is important to dance as frequently
as possible. As an alternative to the club scene, we will
have monthly socials at our studio or offsite for students not
yet ready (or not yet old enough)
to dance in a club. Our
socials/dances are fun and have a good friendly environment. <top>
Q: What do I wear?
Loose comfortable clothing. You will be moving around alot, so anything
you
are
comfortable moving around in. Please do not wear flip-flops, sandals, etc.<top>
Q: How do sign up?
If this is your first time taking a class with us, go to our sign-up
page,
fill
out
the
registration form, and bring the signed form to the instructor before class.
Let
us know what your overall goals are, whether it is to dance on a team,
or
simply
to
look
good
at the club. Or just drop by our studio and we'd be happy to assist you with
any questions you may have.<top>
Q: How can I contact you?
